The Royal Wedding: Some Day My Prince Will Come

Or, Candy Apple finally jumps in on this whole Royal Wedding posting bonanza.

Honestly, I could have cared less about the whole royal wedding until, oh, people started blogging about it. Yes. I am now a convert. The conjecture! The lovely inspiration! The dresses! The style! I got super excited because, come on, it’s not every day that royalty gets married and I get to watch it on TV, right? Plus, I feel somewhat connected to Will and Kate (we’re on a nickname basis, obvs) because we have been planning our weddings at the same time, so that makes us wedding-twins, right? Right.

And really, who doesn’t want to watch a gal marry her prince? Since I’m such a sappy romantic, I am getting more excited about this as the week progresses. However, since I haven’t been following the wedding (I avoid all the TV shows/ specials/ etc at all costs) for the most part, these are going to be fairly wild guesses. So grab your fave cuppa, don your fanciest hat, and let’s make some guesses:

Dress

I am firmly in the camp that Catherine (aka Kate) will be at least a two-dress bride.

For the ceremony, my gut feeling is that she will stick with a more traditional ball gown-esque dress. None of this mermaid-fit stuff (although that would TOTALLY look fab on her teensy figure). No, I think that she’ll give a nod to the more formal, royal traditions here, and wear a long, semi-full gown (though not the completely puffy type of dress that Diana wore). She is marring into the royal family, after all, and I think that she will dress appropriately.

She will definitely wear long sleeves, no ifs ands or buts about it. I’m picturing a semi-modest neckline as well. And, like several others before me, I’m positive she’ll show off that cute little waist with a cinched look.

Perhaps like this? Although with a bit less poof in the bottom. I LOVE the lace sleeves on this, and the little bow detail at the waist. Since Kate is so fashionable, I imagine she’ll try to put her own little personal touch on the dress, regardless of tradition and formality. It IS her day, after all!

On the flip side, and going totally against what I just said, I could also see her wearing something like this. A bit more on the older traditional side. So old it’s new? I still love the look, and it would look very classy and chic on her. The sleeves aren’t as long and fitted, but they still cover the shoulders. This dress just seems a bit more stately to me, although at the same time less formal?

But for the reception? That’s another story! I think she’ll wear something a bit more fun for that, although still fitted and still white. And I think she’ll go with one of her fave designers for this dress: Daniella Helayel, of Issa. Honestly, I have no idea what it will look like, but I imagine something lacey, and perhaps one-shoulder. Like this, but in cream or ivory? And slightly longer—this one looks a bit on the short side.

Veil

I think she will definitely go cathedral-length on the veil, with some lace accents, and it will probably be between 12-14 feet.

Hair

I think that she will have a sleek, low updo, and will wear a lovely smallish tiara along with the veil. She will change her hair with the dress for the reception to something a bit less polished and formal; perhaps half up and half down.

Ceremony Length

One hour, eleven minutes. No idea how long these things last—this is wild conjecture!

Florals

They’re going “green” here, and I love it. Picture lots of potted trees and flowers, such as rhododendrons, azaleas, wisteria, etc., along with the more traditional bouquets of roses and gardenias. For colors, I am picturing creams, soft blues, and purples. In terms of a theme, I read somewhere that they’re going for “Language of Flowers,” whatever the heck that means. But I imagine it means lots of flowers and foliage? I think they’ll probably use the whole “green” and sustainability theme throughout the wedding and reception. I mean, come on, can’t you just picture that pretty wisteria draped over everything??

Cake

Oh geez, I have no idea how to guess this one. 7 or 8 layers? White cake with lovely detailing and lots of florals (real flowers). I think they’ll have a bit more fun with a groom’s cake, though!

Okay. Clearly, I don’t know what I’m doing with this whole wedding business. But it’s fun to pretend, right?? I can’t wait to see what actually happens!

Have you been staying up-to-date on all the Royal Wedding hoopla?
